Flying Kites is a vibrant Christian primary school serving the community of Kapiri Mposhi.
The school currently has 350 pupils, and looking to expand to two classes per grade if the buildings can be put up.
We have a Baby Class up to Grade 7 and our 3 intakes of Grade 7 (Year 6 equivalent) have all passed their exams with great results.
Our passion is to provide excellent education to give our students the best start in life. The Zambian curriculum is augmented with additional content to ensure that each child develops physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
Over two thirds of the classes at flying kites go on to G8 at Vinjeru and others going to good government boarding schools.

We actively prompt our values though 5 child friendly words which are displayed around the school, used as a springboard for assembly talks, class devotion themes, within lessons and all other parts of school life. Children from our Baby Class (3-4 year olds) up to Grade 7 have these values modeled for and instilled in them – our hope is to help parents in their efforts to raise children who show these values in their daily lives.
Our main priority is providing excellent education which means helping students initially with basic numeracy and literacy skills and then go on to build the confidence to access, understand and apply learning in all subject areas. However, we cannot ignore other aspects vital to the rounded development of a child. To enable this, our weekly schedule allows time for learning about how to relate to others, work as a team and become critical thinkers. Circle time, sports, music, drama and dance, science competitions, debates, trips, quizzes and many other extra-curricular activities help pupils try out new things, discover their talents and enjoy school.
The Vinjeru New Teachers programme covers eight key aspects of education and is delivered to all teaching staff that join the team. Discussion groups, observations and assignments for each of the modules helps our staff get up to speed with our expectations and methodology. They also build confidence in staff to develop as a professional. The modules include: Professionalism; Pedagogy; Planning and Preparation; Behaviour Management; Marking and Feedback; Differentiation; Creativity in the Classroom; and Christianity in the Classroom. The purpose of the course is to support teachers in developing their skills and become to excellent. We believe this will lead to greater enjoyment of lessons and higher academic achievements.
We work hard to keep a wide range of excellent resources available for our pupils to use. From books, puzzles, games and toys for the young ones to a computer room, library and science equipment for the older ones, our hope is that their development socially and academically is based on intrigue and discovery that will keep them engaged and experiencing the joy of learning every moment of their time in school.

Martin Simbeye
Co-Founder / Principal
I am the Principal and also teach Maths and Science. As well as teaching and leading the school, I work with George to oversee the building side of the project so my time is always spoken for, especially as there is always another list or job for me to work on! I love being in the classroom and when the students grasp a new concept it is the best feeling!
Karolyn Simbeye

Although Karolyn is Secondary trained, seeing her children need good education at the foundation stages of their academic adventure made her want to take a lead role in shaping the teaching at the Primary section. Along with a lot of help from people fare more experienced than herself, what is now the most sought after school in town has been established. People are knocking on the door day in, day out looking for places. As such, expansion of the primary section has been planned with the aim that two classes per grade will be available.
